Did you know squash comes from a history of crime? Squash stems from the original sport of “rackets,” invented by London prisoners in the 19th century. Rackets is similar to tennis in that it requires rackets and a net, but it evolved when a creative group of students at the prestigious Harrow School (an international boarding school in England) realized that a punctured “racquets” ball made a satisfying “squash” sound on impact with a wall at high velocity. The students soon abandoned the net and aimed at the wall. This required more strategy and motion than rackets, and so, squash was born.
